چکیده

Abstract Effects of cyclic monensin feeding on in situ disappearance kinetics low-quality forage (LQF; 4.9% CP) were evaluated. Ruminally cannulated steers (n = 12; Bos taurus; 260 kg BW) consuming LQF randomly assigned to 3 treatments a completely randomized design: CON (0 mg∙animal-1∙day-1 monensin; Rumensin 90, Elanco Animal Health, Greenfield, IN), 2) MON (200 monensin), or 3) CYC for 4 d and 0 subsequent d). Steers fed dried distillers’ grains with solubles (1 kg∙animal-1∙day-1) inclusion. Four 28-d replicated cycles used allowing 9 days treatment adaptation, sampling, withdrawal within the group. Low-quality samples weighed into × 20 cm polyester bags replicates four each sampling hour. On 0, all placed ventral area rumen removed 4, 8,6, 24, 48, 72 hours post feeding. Upon removal, rinsed ice water, frozen until final removed. Subsequently, washed utilizing commercial washing machine, at 55°C constant weight residues analyzed DM. Ruminal DM degradation data over time fitted first-order exponential model discrete lag using NLIN procedure SAS 9.4, then parameters compared PROC GLIMMIX compare dietary period included as random variable. There was no effect (P ≥ 0.22) potentially degradable DM, rate degradation, residue, lag, wash loss Results are consistent findings concurrent vivo study conducted by Hook et al. (2022). Further evaluation NDF degradability is required determine clear an LQF.

Effect of monensin fed with forage on digestion and the ruminal ecosystem of steers.

Monensin 3 , a polyether antibiotic, was blended with a forage diet at levels of 0, 11, 22 and 33 ppm and fed to steers to determine its effect on cot ton fiber, dietary carbohydrate and nitrogen digestibility, on numbers of rumihal microbes, and on concentration of ruminal volatile fa t ty acids. No differences (P>.10) in cellulose digestibility from cot ton were observed in response to monens...

Effect of Forage Feeding Level on Performance, Meat Quality and Economic Costof Holstein Beef Calves Fed Organic Diet

The aim of this study was to compare conventional and organic diets in beef production. Thirty-two dairy beef calves were used in 4 treatments: organic diet with three levels of forage [70% of organic diet with high amount of forage (ORH), 55% of organic diet with medium amount of forage (ORM), 38% of organic diet with low amount of forage(ORL)] and conventional diet (CON). The dry matter intak...

Effect of direct-fed fibrolytic enzymes on the digestive characteristics of a forage-based diet fed to beef steers.

A study was conducted to examine the method of delivery of a solution containing cellulases and xylanases on the digestion of a forage-based diet. Five ruminally cannulated beef steers (536 kg BW) were randomly assigned to a control (CON) or one of four enzyme treatments in a 5 x 5 Latin square experiment. Steers were fed a 70:30 (DM basis) grass hay:barley diet. Enzyme-treated rations containe...

Influence of lysocellin and monensin on mineral metabolism of steers fed forage-based diets.

Studies were conducted to determine the effects of lysocellin and monensin on mineral metabolism of steers fed forage-based diets. In each study treatments consisted of 1) control, 2) 100 mg lysocellin/d, 3) 200 mg lysocellin/d and 4) 200 mg monensin/d. Twenty-four growing Hereford steers were used in each of two experiments to evaluate the effects of ionophore feeding on plasma and ruminal sol...

Effect of feeding wet distillers grains on performance, marbling deposition, and fatty acid content of beef from steers fed low- or high-forage diets.

One hundred thirty-eight Angus cross yearling steers (initial BW 390 ± 0.5 kg) were allotted by BW to a 3 × 2 factorial arrangement of 6 treatments (4 pens per treatment) to determine the effect of wet distillers grains (WDG) concentration (0, 20, 40% of dietary DM) in low-forage (12% hay) and high-forage (50% hay) diets on growth performance and marbling. Steers were implanted on d 0 with Comp...
